At the Network Forum Prof. Isabelle Stadelmann-Steffen and Prof. Christian Franck presented the results of a survey on the acceptance of power transmission technologies.

At the Swissgrid Netzforum, which took place on 18 May 2017 in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, more than 130 representatives of distribution system and power plant operators, politics, the administration, universities, energy industry and environmental associations and also investors gathered to exchange their views on Switzerland’s future electricity infrastructure. The event focused on the future requirements for the extra-high voltage grid and the required acceptance for the corresponding expansion and modernisation projects.

In a workshop Prof. Isabelle Stadelmann-Steffen, leader of the NRP 71 project “Acceptance of renewable energy”, and Prof. Christian Franck, leader of the NRP 70 project “Hybrid overhead power lines for Switzerland” presented the results of a survey of around 1,100 people on the acceptance of various technologies for power transmission, including hybrid overhead power lines.

On completion of the presentation they discussed with the participants their own experiences and strategies to gain the level of support in society for corresponding infrastructure measures. Franck received spontaneous applause from the public plenum for stating that the successful introduction of new technologies requires not only the technical optimum but the optimum of target functions of all stakeholders and everyone affected.
